Freshwater Fish Invasions: A Comprehensive Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Freshwater fish have been widely introduced worldwide, and freshwater ecosystems are among those most affected by biological invasions. Consequently, invasions one of the documented animal taxa, with much information available about invasive species, their characteristics, invaded regions, invasion pathways, impacts, management. While existing reviews address specific aspects invasions, there is still a gaping lack comprehensive assessments that simultaneously pivotal connected elements process. Here, we provide holistic review, together quantitative assessments, divided into four major parts: ( a) introduction b) characteristics nonnative species andinvaded explain successful processes, c) impacts mechanisms, d) We highlight data gaps biases in current databases basic understanding several In addition, recommendations for future studies.

Conceptualising the interactive effects of climate change and biological invasions on subarctic freshwater fish

Climate change and species invasions represent key threats to global biodiversity. Subarctic freshwaters are sentinels for understanding both stressors because the effects of climate change are disproportionately strong at high latitudes and invasion of temperate species is prevalent. Here, we summarize the environmental effects of climate change and illustrate the ecological responses of fresh...

Monitoring Biological Invasions in Freshwater Habitats

Biological invasions of freshwater habitats are due to the accidental or deliberate introduction of organisms associated to aquaculture, sports fishing, passive transport by vessels, ornamental uses and man-made canals and corridors. In European freshwater habitats, about 296 species of alien invertebrate, mostly crustaceans, and 136 species of alien fish have been introduced (Gherardi et al. 2...

Freshwater ecosystems and aquatic insects: a paradox in biological invasions.

Biological invasions have increased significantly in response to global change and constitute one of the major causes of biodiversity loss. Insects make up a large fraction of invasive species, in general, and freshwaters are among the most invaded ecosystems on our planet. However, even though aquatic insects dominate most inland waters, have unparalleled taxonomic diversity and occupy nearly ...

A comprehensive Review on Human brucellosis

Brucellosis is a major bacterial zoonosis of human beings transmitted usually by direct contact with infected animals, their secretions and consuming milk or milk products. The disease occurs worldwide in animals as well as humans. Brucellosis in human beings is a multisystem disease with severe clinical manifestations in patients depending upon the site of infection and organ involved. Human b...

Folkbiology of freshwater fish.

Cross-cultural comparisons of categorization often confound cultural factors with expertise. This paper reports four experiments on the conceptual behavior of Native American and majority-culture fish experts. The two groups live in the same general area and engage in essentially the same set of fishing-related behaviors. Nonetheless, cultural differences were consistently observed. Majority-cu...
